Thoppu Venkatachalam joins DMK, vows to form Erode the party’s bastion

Former AIADMK Minister Thoppu N.D. Venkatachalam on Sunday joined the DMK, in presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and party president M.K. Stalin and vowed to form Erode bastion of the DMK.

“Mr. Stalin, albeit DMK won comfortably and came back to power, i do know about your concern about not having the ability to secure more seats in Erode. we’ll play a task in addressing that concern,” he said speaking at Arivalayam, DMK’s headquarters.

Mr. Venkatachalam also said over 900 cadres from various political parties and other organisations joined the DMK along side him. He claimed he would rope in another 25,000 cadres, if Mr. Stalin orders.

He hailed Mr. Stalin’s governance and said it’s ensuring social justice and acting as a task model for the whole India.

Mr. Venkatachalam was elected to the Assembly from Perundurai in 2011 and 2016 and served because the Minister for Environment and Revenue within the Jayalalithaa government. Since he was denied nomination within the 2021 assembly election, he contested as an independent candidate and was expelled from AIADMK.
